Follow The Dream; Book by Heidi M. Thomas

Follow the Dream: Nettie Moser’s dreams are coming true. She’s married to her cowboy, Jake, they have plans for a busy rodeo season, and she has a once in a lifetime opportunity to rodeo in London with the Tex Austin Wild West Troupe.
But life during the Great Depression brings unrelenting hardships and unexpected family responsibilities. Nettie must overcome challenges to her lifelong rodeo dreams, cope with personal tragedy, survive drought, and help Jake keep their horse herd from disaster.
Will these challenges break this strong woman?
This sequel to Cowgirl Dreams is based on the life of the author’s grandmother, a real Montana cowgirl.
Excerpt from Follow the Dream:
The sage-dusted countryside passed by in a blur as Nettie stared out the pickup window. Like the days of her life. All just a blur.
She ticked off the places they’d lived since she and Jake were married. Twenty-four times she’d picked up and moved since their honeymoon days on the Davis Place nearly fifteen years ago. Twenty-four times packing up their few belongings. They’d never really stayed anywhere long enough to accumulate much. Twenty-four times of setting up camp in a tent, squeezing into a hotel room, or cleaning a mouse-infested abandoned shack, even a granary, for heaven’s sake.
Moving around would’ve been different if they’d been part of the rodeo world. But that dream hadn’t come true. Then she’d settled for the one about having their own place. Someday. Always someday. Did other women have to endure this kind of life?
How she wished she could talk to Marie. Her friend’s words came back to her: Live your life, follow your dream.
Maybe she should go talk to Mama. No, she couldn’t run home to mother every time she felt blue. Then she remembered what Mama had said, not to give up on dreaming, but just allow another one to take the place of the one that was not to be.
She twisted the ring on her left hand. Jake was a good man, good-hearted, hardworking. He’d had his ambitions too, his visions blown away in the dust, swallowed by new-fangled machines, strangled by the death-throes of the only way of life they’d ever known. Easterners taking over farming, corporate ranches, machines making horses obsolete. What was to become of the life of the cowboy? Of Jake’s life? Selling their horses could be the last straw.
She and Jake used to have the same dream: rodeo. Nettie’s stomach knotted. That had been such a strong dream. Had she been clinging to that, even as she talked of focusing on a new dream, of having a place of her own? What do I really want?

A review of Follow the Dream:
In her poignant tale of Nettie Moser's diligent pursuit of a dream, Heidi Thomas gives a stunning example of what it means to "Cowgirl Up." The Creation of Worlds

The Creation of Worlds
By Jen Wylie

One of my favorite parts of a new work is creating the world it takes place in. Sometimes the differences between 'our world' and my invented world are few, mostly the differences being magic or what beings are there. But not always.
In my novel Sweet Light which comes out June 1st, I made an entire new world. I had maps and lists of countries, cities, peoples, saying, foods, everything. I spent years playing around with all the little details, many of which never really made it into the story, but it was still fun!
My new short story series also has a new world. Unlike the world of Sweet Light though, it is drastically different from what we could consider 'normal'. Needless to say, I'm having the most fun EVER (excuse the pun) creating this world as well. Though technically, Ever is not a world, but a place. I wanted Ever to be bizarre, crazy, and also wild and dangerous. Part of its deadliness is that nothing is normal or known. At least not to someone from earth. My character does her best to describe the crazy world she has been banished too, and I have a great time coming up with her descriptions of things. For example when she lands in Ever she falls on the border between two drastically different environments, a desert and a jungle. “The sand is pink. Not the washed out pink of granite, but clashed-really-bad-with-my-hair bright pink.” The jungle she describes as “one colored by some crazy kindergarten kids, maybe.”
Did I mention I have kids? I do, two boys, 7 and 9. They love to help with the world of Ever and though I don't really have a problem coming up with ideas, I ask for their opinions sometimes. They like helping invent creatures just as much as landscapes. Such as something crossed between a puppy and a squirrel, but blue. :) Ever also has killer ducks, which every reader so far has thoroughly enjoyed. They came to be due an inside joke, my best friend has a killer duck...though it isn't green.
I'm very thrilled the series will be six stories long. Misha, my main character, stays in the Rainbow Jungle for the first two shorts, however in the 3rd she travels to the Tall Forrest. I'm sure many interesting things will happen there!
I hope you all enjoy the worlds I create! Happy reading and thanks so much for having me today!

Series Blurb:
Welcome to Ever.
Ever, a deadly realm where feared, powerful and dangerous magical beings are banished. Though very large, it is not a world but a magically created prison. You can’t break through its circular boundary. Who, or what, made Ever? I’ve no idea. They were powerful, and cruel. That is all I can tell you.
Ever is like and unlike every other world. Nothing is safe. Safety is a dream. Ever is a nightmare. Few survive their first day. Nothing is what it seems. If something appears safe, it isn’t. If something appears dangerous, well it is, but probably more so than you think.
Ever has no sun, no moon, no stars at night. Time is told by the ever changing color of the sky where portals open, dropping new inhabitants, or new terrors. Time does pass. Don’t worry, you won’t get old. You won’t live that long.
The landscape changes without reason form dessert to jungles. The flora isn’t safe at any time. There is food, if you can find it without getting eaten yourself. Most plants and animals are poisonous. So is the water.
Are you afraid? You should be. This is the end. It gets worse of course. Remember the portals? Do think angels come through? Rarely the innocent do. Mostly, it is people of evil, people too powerful to kill. Their magic works here. The creature’s are worse.
Do you understand? Well you will eventually, or you’ll die. There is no escaping Ever. Ever.

#1 Banished Blurb:
My life was normal. It sucked, but it was normal. At least until I got this new power. I can control fire. It would be cool if it wasn’t so dangerous and if I knew how to use it. Pretty much my sucky life took a nose dive once I got it. Yup, everything gone. I suppose I should be thankful some uncle I never heard of took me in. Turns out the whole family isn’t normal and my power is a lot more dangerous than I thought. I thought things couldn’t get any worse. I was wrong. They banished me to Ever.
If I’m lucky, I might survive my first day.

Southfield Lawyer reveals controversial secrets between Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson and Charlie Sheen.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Southfield, Michigan (10:37am) March 3, 2011
Does Charlie Sheen get custody of his kids? Does Charlie Sheen have contractual rights by suing CBS? We pose a different question with the end in mind. If Michael Jackson and Heath Ledger were alive what would they want changed with their emergency estate plans? Southfield attorney (Detroit estate planning attorney and Michigan Probate Litigator) reveals that even though Charlie Sheen says he is fully sober and not on any drugs what would happen if he passed on?
I know it’s a morbid question. However, Empowering Media tracked down noted author (Joseph J. Dadich, Esq., CPA) and creator of the ‘Emergency Child Protection Plan for Busy Parents’ ™, to go shed light on what would happen to Charlie’s kids if he passed on and his ex-wife’s, along with other key issues many family’s need to address.
Mr. Dadich stated in our interview outside his Bloomfield Hills, MI office “First off, more than 72% of family’s have ZERO estate planning in place. It wouldn’t surprise me if Charlie – Like Michael – only had a simple Will done some years ago.” “Further, a Will is never the best protection to prevent minor kids from having unwanted family raise your kids and have them raised how you would want them raised”
“As a Southfield attorney (Detroit estate planning attorney and Michigan Probate Litigator) I’ve seen the devastation that can happen when family’s do not plan. There are tons of misleading alleged legal information out there (online wills, asset protection, guardianship in Oakland county, and conservatorships in Oakland county)”
Empowering Media asked what 2 key ways Charlie can truly prevent the unthinkable from happening. “The 2 keys are: 1. He needs to nominate Emergency and Temporary Responders in the event he passes on. 2. There needs to be critical access to his medical records. Why is this important? Because since he is not married, if he is rushed to the hospital someone with authority would need to have access to medical records versus waiting on a probate court to allow someone close to him to make a life-saving decision.”
We do not wish any ill will on Charlie Sheen, but with many family’s transfixed on him these days it’s a great opportunity to review your own personal life and emergency estate planning you may have in place.

Southfield Lawyer reveals keys to Good Estate Planning

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Southfield, Michigan (10:37am) February 8, 2011

This may be hard to believe, but as a Southfield Lawyer it happens to me all of the time. When I sit down with a new client we review both their family situation and financial status. The financial information is important for two basic reasons:

  1. Will the client have any estate tax issues.
  2. Who will inherit the client's property after the client dies.

With the new $5 million estate tax exemption, reason number 1 is not really a concern for many people. But you may be surprised at how many people I sit down with who have no idea how their assets are titled. Is it in the wife's name? Is it in the husband's name? Is in joint names with the wife and husband or with one of the children? Is it in the name of the wife's revocable living trust? And that's not where it stops - what about life insurance, IRAs and annuities? Who owns these types of asset s and who is named as the primary and secondary beneficiaries?

At a recent weekly Empowering Women meetup Southfield lawyer and noted author, Joseph J. Dadich (online wills, asset protection, guardianship in Oakland county, and conservatorships in Oakland county) spoke out on the critical steps family's need to start their estate planning. "Not only is it critical for me to see whose name assets are titled, but as a Southfield attorney (Detroit estate planning attorney and Michigan Probate Litigator) I have to know if the family is in a 2nd marriage, divorced, widowed, step-kids."

Joseph went on to state that ". . . too many busy family's don't realize that a Will is not enough to protect small kids."

For a Southfield attorney (Detroit estate planning attorney and Michigan Probate Litigator) the real key to good estate planning is understanding what you own, what it's worth, and, most importantly, how it's titled. Why? Because how a particular asset is titled will dictate who inherits it after you die and if it will need to go through probate.

Yes, the real key to good estate planning is that simple. And it's not enough for you to think or believe that you know how something is titled, you need to be 100% sure. Otherwise it may not end up where you want it to end up after you die. While this may appear to be a simple concept,

Southfield Lawyer donates to Erin Cummings ‘Mittens for Detroit’ charity.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Southfield, Michigan (10:37am) January 4, 2011

The New Year is one of the coldest times in the Detroit area. Actress Erin Cummings of ABC's hit show "Detroit 187" has come up with a wonderful way to give back to the people of Detroit. Even with the Detroit economy in a slump, local Southfield attorney (Detroit estate planning attorney and Michigan Probate Litigator), Joseph J. Dadich, Esq. takes time to donate for a good cause.

We caught up with Southfield lawyer and noted author, Joseph J. Dadich (online wills, asset protection, guardianship in Oakland county, and conservatorships in Oakland county) on how others can affect change in their hometown. The Southfield Lawyer stated '. . . My firm wanted to make an impact by donating some gloves and mittens to a great charity. Which was started by the star actress of "Detroit 187" Erin Cummings."

Crains Detroit Business reports that Cummings was passing out Halloween candy at her cousin's house in Detroit when she encountered a young trick-or-treater in tears because she was cold and only had one glove.

The situation inspired Cummings to warm up Detroit's needy residents with "Mittens for Detroit." Her charity will "collect and distribute new gloves and mittens to needy Detroit children and adults."

"After the way the city of Detroit has opened its arms to me, the least I can do is give something back," Cummings said.

Southfield Lawyer’s annual Bucket List for 2011 includes – Slaying a Dragon?

Breaking News

Southfield, MI 4:37pm

Every year we go through the most ridiculous bucket lists. This year we have a real treat for you. We looked at some pretty interesting and relatively level-headed and reachable goals. Then we found the 2011 Bucket List for a Detroit Estate Planning Attorney (Oakland County Probate Attorney) that has raised the bar for many wills and trusts lawyers Oakland County.

Empowering Women Now! Media revealed that has of the new year, we have a Dragon Slayer as his #1 goal for 2011. We sought out an explanation for what this means from Joseph J. Dadich, Esq., Detroit Estate Planning Attorney (asset protection, wills, trusts, life insurance, financial powers of attorney, medical powers of attorney).

His response was enlightening and funny at the same time. "Too many times in business you try to stay at the same level as your competitor's. As Detroit Estate Planning Attorney and Oakland County Probate Attorney I've tried for a number of years to 'Slay the Dragon' of big business. Too many online wills and other Southfield Lawyers fail to re-invent themselves and the consumer is stuck with a 1990's approach."

He went on to state ". . . So in my 2011 Annual Bucket List I'm slaying the proverbial dragon this year thru my new book 'Celebrity Estate Plans Gone Bad – Secrets Every Woman Needs to Prevent Emotional and Financial Turmoil When a Loved One Dies'.

"I had a lot of great feedback from the Women who's estate plans we are creating for them and clients we have already placed in this program." Our Wills and Trusts Lawyers Oakland County, Michigan Probate Litigator, Detroit Estate Planning Attorney, Southfield Attorney, finished with "I wish for a great new year for everyone and health and happiness for 2011!'
